Workforce Development

Exodus has provided soft-skills job-readiness programming for nearly 20 years. Our Walking through the Wilderness Workshop equips jobseekers with the tools and skills needed to obtain employment. Jobseekers participate in mock interviews, complete a SWOT analysis as it relates to their employability, engage in group discussions about the challenges of reentry, acceptance, guilt, and external influences, create a resume, and learn coping mechanisms to manage stress and effective networking strategies. In addition, participants learn their rights in relation to the Fair Chance Act and NY Correction Law Article 23-A, as well as discuss financial literacy and budgeting.

Jobseekers also complete the Exodus Contract, which is based on the understanding that success in different areas of life (employment, education, family, health/physical fitness, community service, spirituality) are interconnected. For example, family problems often affect a person at work while a deeper sense of spirituality often influences family relationships. The contract helps participants achieve goals in all areas of your life by creating a concrete plan for success.

Upon graduation of the workshop, Job Developers and Case Managers provide job placement and retention services (including Metro Card incentives) for up to one-year post-placement. In addition, we offer hard-skills training through our wide array of partner organizations.
